Join us as we delve into common questions and essential insights surrounding agricultural plastic recycling, empowering you to make informed decisions and take meaningful steps towards a cleaner, more sustainable agricultural industry.
Will my plastic be recycled?
Yes, Agri.Cycle ensures that your agricultural plastic waste is recycled responsibly. With a commitment to sustainability, only 2.5% of the plastic collected by us in 2023 ended up in landfills. As proud members of the Green Tractor Scheme, we adhere to stringent recycling standards to minimize environmental impact and promote a circular economy.
Why is it important to separate my agricultural plastic?
The separation of agricultural plastic waste is vital for effective recycling. By segregating different types of plastics, such as silage wrap, seed bags, and spray containers, you enable efficient recycling, reprocessing, and reuse. Correct waste segregation not only maximizes the potential for recycling but also reduces contamination, ensuring higher-quality recycled materials.
What about Caps and Foils?
Caps and foils from spray containers are commonly overlooked in the recycling process. However, they must be handled properly to avoid contamination and ensure successful recycling. At Agri.Cycle, we recommend separating caps and foils from spray containers and placing them in designated bags. This simple step facilitates their recycling alongside the containers, promoting a more sustainable waste management process.
What about paperwork for Farm Assurance Schemes?
Farm assurance schemes require documentation to verify responsible waste management practices. To meet these requirements, all Agri.Cycle customers receive Waste Transfer Notes for the materials they recycle. These notes serve as important documentation, demonstrating compliance with regulations and ensuring transparency in the waste disposal process.
What does Agri.Cycle not take?
While Agri.Cycle accepts a wide range of agricultural plastics and cardboard, there are certain materials we cannot process. Hazardous waste, such as chemicals and other pollutants, is not accepted for recycling. However, we are more than happy to arrange a collection on your behalf! Additionally, materials contaminated beyond reasonable levels may also be rejected. To ensure successful recycling, we encourage our customers to segregate materials and minimize contamination.
How clean does the waste need to be?
Cleanliness is essential for effective recycling. To optimize the recycling process, we recommend thoroughly rinsing spray containers, emptying fertilizer, feed, and seed bags, and removing contaminants from other plastic items. By ensuring that materials are clean and free from contaminants, you contribute to the production of higher-quality recycled materials and support sustainable waste management practices.
What are the costs?
The cost of recycling agricultural plastic with Agri.Cycle varies depending on several factors, including the type and quantity of materials recycled. We offer competitive pricing tailored to the specific needs of each customer. To obtain a detailed quote, please contact us with information about your recycling requirements.
What about the bags?
As part of our commitment to sustainability, Agri.Cycle offers reusable bags for the collection of agricultural plastic waste. When you hire a Dumpy or Midi bag from us, it is replaced on a like-for-like basis, similar to the "bag for life" schemes offered by supermarkets. This approach minimizes waste and promotes the responsible use of resources, aligning with our mission to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste in agriculture.
Do I need to be there when my plastic is collected?
We require customers to be present. As the legal responsibility for waste disposal rests with the property owner or manager, their presence ensures compliance with regulations and promotes responsible waste management practices. Additionally, having someone present during collection facilitates the loading process, making it more efficient for our collection team.
Where can I recycle?
Agri.Cycle operates a network of collection hubs across the UK, making it convenient for farmers and growers to recycle their agricultural plastic waste. If there isn't a collection hub near you, our head office can arrange alternative collection methods. We're committed to providing accessible recycling solutions for agricultural businesses nationwide, ensuring that agricultural plastic waste is recycled responsibly and efficiently.
What is The Green Tractor Scheme?
The Green Tractor Scheme is a certification program that promotes sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship. As proud Co-Founder of the Green Tractor Scheme, Agri.Cycle is committed to meeting the highest standards of environmental responsibility in agricultural plastic recycling. The Green Tractor seal of approval signifies to retailers and agri-businesses that materials recycled with Agri.Cycle are sourced from sustainable and environmentally conscious farms, further enhancing the value of our recycling services.
